ETSY — Amidst the endless barrage of AI generated slop on every selling platform, one constant remains true: queer-owned shops are still trying to sell Harry Potter crafts.
“For me, it’s all about separating the art from the artist,” one creator, MooDeng54, said of her chibi pride flag silhouette stickers of the character, sold at $4.99 a piece. “Harry Potter is so much more than J.K. Rowling. It’s a lifestyle.”
Others were more dismissive of the nature of their sold content. In a study of 804 queer Harry Potter craft shops, a whopping 745 of them thought they “were fine because it’s not like the money is going to her anyway.” When the topic of brand exposure was mentioned, 60 of the 745 blocked our account.
“Okay, so she’s a little mean,” the QueeryPotter account said of the fallen-from-grace author. “But it’s not like her words have any impact on anything, and she’s not making money off of it.” The QueeryPotter account then went on to discuss the owner’s frequent trips to Universal, and all of the official merch they’ve collected over the years.
